How do you communicate? It is so important. I wonder sometimes, if it is possible to sing everything, because words just get in the way? This is why I love music, because words alone do not have the same effect. Are you enjoying BYU Education Week this week? That’s where I am right now and the spirit here is incredible. There is true service here. Sometimes I have to stop and pinch myself because if I don’t I will start tearing up. It is so overwhelming to notice how many good people are here at this time. I am surrounded by loving good people and it is so welcoming and heavenly. I’ve met enjoyable people from all over the world with strong testimonies of Christ. It is powerful to be in the midst of these wonderful, good, service-oriented people who love the Lord and want to do what is right. That is what it’s all about.
This life is so super short. As we pass through our time on earth it goes by so quickly and we only have a few moments to make impressions with people. It is so easy to offend, or misunderstand, or hurt other people unintentionally. My heart brakes when I think of the possibilities of doing that myself. I almost wish I could sing everything I say my whole life, because words just get in the way. (Yes I’m singing words, but it’s different somehow.)
When you communicate are you spending most of the conversation thinking about yourself and not putting others first? Do you think about your list of “to-do’s” rather than someone else’s worries. Recently I read, “when you meet someone, treat them as if they were in serious trouble, and you will be right more than half the time.” -Henry B. Eyring. Isn’t this a powerful statement? Just think what would happen if we all did this.
If you treat everyone you meet as though they are your best friend and you try to put them above any and all your concerns, that is true service. How often do we do this? Gosh, I need to be so much better at it. What a great reminder. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me.
If you have attended BYU Education Week please comment about how it has effected your life. Here are what other’s are saying about it. Or you can go here to listen to testimonials as well. I hope you join me in one of my classes. I’d really love to get to know you.
