“Child In A Manger” by Vanessa Joy is written by Mary MacDonald and translated into English by Lachlan Macbean in 1888. It is a traditional Gaelic melody called Bunessan. It is a delicate melody that is perfect for Christmas celebrations. The familiar beautiful hymn melody is also shared by the hymn titled “Morning Has Broken” which incidentally was sung at my parents wedding. (Not by me of course!) 🙂
“Child In A Manger” is on the album “Joy To the World” and can be found here or you can listen to it here in Vanessa Joy’s store or here on youtube. I loved the openers of this hymn. It is bright and cheerful. The music is so delicate yet full and sweet too. It’s a very suitable hymn to be sung on Christmas Eve as it shares the full story of the birth of Jesus Christ. I love the last verse how it praises our Savior with the words, “Worthy our Savior of all our praises Happy Forever are His own.” It cheers my soul and brings so much comfort and happiness to me as I hear this song being sung during the holidays. It is truly a hymn of praise and could be sung all year round as it speaks of our transgressions and how He inherits them.
I am so grateful for my Savior. He is everything to me. I would be nothing without Him. I would have nothing without Him. I owe everything I have to Him and I am so thankful to Him for his love and his gift that He gave to all of us. I pray as we all go forward that we will let music into our hearts and that we will praise and worship our Savior Jesus Christ in all we do and say. Let Him guide you this Christmas as you find people who need you and your love this Christmas.
