The song “With Wondering Awe” is found on the Christmas CD entitled “Joy To The World” and can be found here or you can listen to it here in Vanessa Joy’s store or here on youtube. “With Wondering Awe” is a song that was created by taking the lyric from the original hymn and creating an entirely new tune for the lyrics to be sung to. This bright, light and cheerful tune has changed the original feeling of the hymn, but the words were kept in tact as it shares a beautiful story of the wisemen and how they traveled far to see our Savior in a manger. On that night they followed a star and I imagine they might have been singing, “Hosanna to his name!”
We had fun creating a delightful happy tune for this message to be sung to. As I sat trying to figure out different parts to sing I didn’t know how they would all fit together. This song was one of the last songs I recorded in the studio. I kept putting it off because I wasn’t quite sure how it would all fit and how the music would work. I prayed as the days in the studio were numbered and nothing was coming to me as to what I should do to fit this song together. I remember praying to God for inspiration as the very next day would be my last day in the studio and I wanted so badly to include this song on the album, but had no idea how it would turn out.
I was worried by poured my heart out in prayer and went to sleep. The very next morning, I had different lines, melodies and tunes running around in my head. It was as if heaven had opened it’s door for me to listen for a few minutes. They were all separate parts and even though I hadn’t heard them together I was pretty certain they would work out. As I sat down on my piano that early morning, and recorded different parts on my handheld recorder, I found that each little musical part I was hearing was fitting together like a puzzle, it was like a symphony! Gratefully and humbly I prayed to God thanking Him for his goodness and for this miracle of music in my life. I had something that was going to work in the studio that day and I owed all of it to God. It was not me who created any of it. It was inspiration straight from Heaven. I hope it brings a smile to your face as it does to mine. The final ending puts all the little pieces together and they are built one on top of each other which made it very fun to do.
